Have you ever done something super spontaneous? Our trip to Scotland was just that!

I had a thought one evening to hire a campervan and do the NC500, called Emma she agreed and 20 minutes later is was all booked and confirmed. From a thought to reality in 20 minutes!

We would be setting off in two weeks time and had no real plan. I’m not the type to have a solid plan, I am more of just a go with the flow kind of girl and Emma was fine with that. We drafted out a route but were flexible. We decided the NC500 wasn’t for us and as a regular to Scotland I suggested the west coast. We planned Glencoe, Silver Sands, Isle of Skye, Tongue at the very north tip of the country then back down through the Cairngorms.

Day 1

We collected our van and headed to Glencoe (one of my favourite places) and we pulled up next to Loch Etive, it was truly stunning! We stayed there for one night then headed to the silver sands in Malaig. Although we had long drives daily the time seemed to fly and my 3 year old daughter was so amazing whist we were on these long journeys.

Day 2

We Arrived at the silver sands and found a car park to park in which had toilets yey! Felt a little luxurious to actually have some toilets. We spent one night at the stunning silver sands, white sand, crystal clear water it was heaven! Our next stop…. Isle of Skye.

Day 3

We took the ferry over to the island we found a spot to park near the fairy pools and made it our home for the night, we met a van lifer named Beth who was super cool and interesting and we invited her over for a fire and drinks that evening. It was so amazing to listen to her stories about how she lives in her van full time.

Day 4

The next morning we headed to the beautiful fairy pools for a swim and a was because by day 3 we were getting a little smelly before heading to our next spot for the night as we were spending 2 nights on the island. Although we didn’t see much of the Isle of Skye (because I had a 3 year old) I can say what we did see is incredible and it is somewhere I’d love to go back to visit again.

Day 5 & 6

We continued our journey north to a village called Tongue where a friend i met through social media lives. The drive here was the most stunning drive I have ever seen! Surrounded by mountains, single track roads, lochs. There is a reason why I fell in love with this place so much, it truly is stunning! We arrived at my friends Elizabeth’s to stay for the next two night. A nice hot shower and a comfy bed was well needed by this point. Elizabeth took us to the most stunning beach I have ever seen called Balnakeil beach. The water was tropical, something you would see on a tropical island far away but this was Scotland! We absolutely fell in love with this place! On the evening we did a beautiful mediation walk that Elizabeth guided us through and we wrote and burned our manifestations on the fire, it was magical.

Day 7

We started descending, our plan was to go to the Cairngorms but we decided to go to Loch Ness instead and swim in the famous loch and I am so glad we did, just so I can say I swam in Loch Ness!

Day 8

We ended our trip in Edinburgh at Portobello beach as it was closer to home, we were not ready for all the people in the city after being in isolation for the last week! We had a fire and dinner on the beach and then a morning dip at 6am while the sun was rising, it was so serene.

This was the trip that kicked off the growth of the wild wanderers. Emma had created the group for a small group of us to plan little get-aways and it wasn’t really a “thing” but we were documenting our travels and all of a sudden women were commenting crying out for adventure friends! We started sending them to the wild wanderers Facebook page and the group just grew and grew! And continues to grow every day. We had no idea that this trip would completely change our lives and that we would be empowering women to step out of their comfort zones and make adventure friends, but here we are and this is only the beginning!
